Please whats all these arguments about? MS from the states, BS + 10 years experience etc. Please we don't need all these. There are people that come to the states and dont even pay a dime in tuition instead they even get paid - in the form of research assistanships and scholarships.
Whatever the case, it is not fair to come to the US work for a long period of time and then get thrown out (say after 6 years) like the H1B visa.
What we need to concentrate our energy and efforts on is for congress to create a PATH for SELF SPONSORSHIP of GCs. For example, if u have lived LEGALLY in the US for 5 or more years, paid taxes and stayed out of troble then you should be able to apply for a green card. That gives you some hope that if I do such and such then one day I'd qualify for a green card. It also takes care of those that started counting as F1 then H1. It balances out everything.
The way it is now, there is no hope. Everything is uncertain. We are living uncertain lives. If we get sacked, we dont even know what step to take next. It is so dipressing and furstrating. Receipt# is printed on check after it's cashed.
In my case, my employer asked me to make checks payable to employer (for attorney fees as well as filing fees) and they cut the check for USCIS and attorneys. I don't understand how it helps them but delays in my getting the receipt#. If they let me pay directly to USCIS, I could at least get the receipt#s. My I-485 was received at NSC on 06/04/2007 morning.

Come on, if you are not strong enough to talk to your congress rep and/or his staff, then you need to evaluate yourself.
Yesterday, I did talk to a bunch of office people for a congress rep who is a republican (and still evaluating CIR) and they were very impressed with my knowledge of the issues and hearings happening in the senate/congress etc. I may have moved that congress man's decision towards supporting CIR. Just get yourself acquainted with what is happening with immigration in the hearings - know who the key players are etc AND then just talk to the office people/staff dealing with immigration for the congress reps. The worst that can happen is that they may disagree with you. But they will not ill treat you in any way.
Now show some depth - contribute your time and money to IV.

1. admit us to your educational systems,
2. give us jobs, and
3. sponsor our green cards.
Why don't posters on this forum move back to their home country and concentrate on making their home country great instead of slamming into someone else's country and just living off the wealth others have created?
The bottom line is that a SKIL act is not needed. Hundreds of thousands of American programmers have lost their job to the third world, both in outsourcing and insourcing of third world programmers who work for cheaper wages. There is absolutely no need for more foreigners here and no need for more green cards. Temporary workers are just that - temporary. If you are on a temporary visa, work your time, make some money for your family and head home when your time is up. Don't cry that we don't provide enough green cards when you knew what kind of visa you were on.

This could be dream. I have been waiting for last 4 Yrs to see my date to be current. It took 3 Yrs to move just 6 months. Mine is 12/2001(EB3-India). 2 more months..sorry 2 more years to wait...

In reviewing the August Visa Bulletin, it does appear that visas will be available after August 1st for these employment-based adjustment cases. In reviewing the electronic records, it does appear that the contractor has placed these cases in a location where they will be pulled and sent to an officer. We are unable to request the files be moved to an Adjudications Officer because our Records Division is running an electronic sweep to pull the files with available visas. Files will be pulled through this sweep and sent to an Officer. We are generally processing about 4000 employment-based cases a month and the cases with available visas are being pulled through these sweeps.

So in that sense, "not moving the processing date" does not make sense. Unless you mean they deliberately reduce the number of hours they work so fewer applications are processed.

During July 2007 fiassco, many members of IV experienced that files were flying between nebraska and california centers without apparent reason. If you have followed processing dates in past you would surely have obeserved dates not moving at all for months. Does that mean nobody was working at USCIS at that time? No.. What it means - " We have heavy work load and we want to go in particular direction and so we are delaying" - in terms of USCIS. In our interpretation - USCIS does not work and want us to rot forever.

I myself will not support for skill Bill in current form. Too much H1b numbers will not only create a problem for US citizens it will also for current H1bs as well future H1bs. That 20% automatic adjustment and exemption for Cap for MS persons will increase supply and it will be tough to find a job if too many people are in the market. There are abundant jobs in India. Let people wait in India for 1 or 2 years to come here. Sustained immigration without increasing unemployment is better for US as well as potential immigrants. Otherwise Hate will increase. It may be easy to talk Capitalism and fittest will survive. When those people talking will be unemployed for more than 6 months with kids in the family will realise the truth. In the Forum most of the people are young and they did not face any issue other than Green card.

No of greencards will not be 650k. may be Double the current number than 650k. There will be strong opposition for big increase of immigration.
